Winter Chills

The season is white, fluffy, breezy, and cool; not quite freezing but getting there.  Although there is no actual snow here, the crispness of the air emphasizes what could be, and what should be.  The wind lifts and carries the fallen leaves from one place to another, while the sun continues to beat down in shimmery waves just barely warming the top of my head. The dogs run and scamper around enjoying themselves in the cool daytime air.  Cinnamon, apples, and oak wood fires, the smells of the holiday season overwhelm me; they remind me of a time, long ago, when I was excited at the thought of Santa Claus coming and the gifts he would bring for my brother and me. As the day comes to an end, the holiday lights begin to sparkle and the sun sets behind the trees as the children's eyes match the twinkle of the stars while they watch the light display. The season is Winter...my favorite time of the year.
